The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Tinubu’s administration has redefined infrastructure development in Abuja.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja while speaking with journalists after inspecting several ongoing road and infrastructure projects across the territory.
Among the projects inspected were the construction of Arterial Road S1, linking Ring Road II to Arterial Road S20 (Oladipo Diya Way) in Kaura District, and Collector Road C2 in Life Camp, which connects to Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Way).
The minister also inspected the ongoing construction of Arterial Road N16, linking Ring Road II to Ring Road III, as well as Jereton Mariere Street around the Apo Legislative Quarters in Gudu District.
He further inspected the ongoing remodelling and renovation of the IBB Golf Course.
According to Wike, the projects are intended to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity and open up new areas of the nation's capital for development.
“We are happy because we can see that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has redefined infrastructure as far as the FCT is concerned,” he said.
N16 Road Expected to Transform Area. Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the projects, saying the FCT administration was working toward completing major projects within their scheduled timelines.
He paid particular attention to Arterial Road N16, noting that the project involved challenging terrain and substantial bridge construction.
The minister said the contractor had given an assurance that the road would be completed by the first week of January.
“If that N16 job is completed, obviously, the entire area will be a different thing altogether. That is a very huge infrastructure landmark,” Wike said.
He also said the Kaura and Life Camp projects were expected to be completed later in the year, according to reports on his inspection tour.
IBB Golf Course to Reopen. Speaking on the renovation of the IBB Golf Course, Wike said the facility was expected to be ready to host major tournaments by November.
The minister said work on the facility was progressing as planned, with the renovation forming part of the broader infrastructure activities being undertaken in the capital.
FCT Capital Budget Hits 60 Per Cent. Wike also disclosed that implementation of the FCT's 2026 capital budget had reached about 60 per cent.
He explained that initial delays in the release of funds had affected payments to contractors and temporarily slowed some projects.
However, he said funding had subsequently stabilised, allowing contractors to resume work at full capacity.
The minister's remarks come as infrastructure projects across Abuja continue to be targeted for completion ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike also advised politicians seeking elective offices to concentrate on presenting their records and programmes to voters rather than engaging in political distractions as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
