The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to inaugurate its Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) for the 2027 general elections, saying consultations with relevant stakeholders are ongoing.
The party disclosed this in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, on September 21, 2026.
According to the NDC, its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have held meetings with the party’s National Leader and other members of the leadership as part of efforts to finalise the campaign structure.
The party said the presidential candidate and his running mate had been given the opportunity to nominate key officials of the campaign council in consultation with the party.
Positions to be nominated by the candidates include the Director-General of the campaign, Deputy Director-General for the North, campaign spokesman, deputy spokesperson, Head of New Media, Finance Director and Deputy Finance Director, among others.
The NDC said a complete organogram for the campaign structure had been prepared since August and presented to Obi and Kwankwaso for their input.
It added that nominations had also been received from other stakeholders across the country.
The party said the PCC would be announced and inaugurated after receiving the final inputs from the presidential and vice-presidential candidates.
The NDC also disclosed that a campaign timetable had been proposed, with arrangements for campaign funding and fundraising expected to be concluded before the commencement of major activities.
According to the party, funds raised for the presidential campaign would be paid into the designated campaign account and managed by officials nominated by the presidential candidate and his running mate alongside the party’s National Treasurer.
The party said the arrangement was intended to promote transparency and accountability in campaign finances and ensure compliance with relevant electoral requirements.
The NDC explained that the inauguration of the campaign council, initially scheduled for the first week of September, was postponed because of the presidential candidate’s travel schedule.
Meanwhile, the party has directed its state and local government area chairmen to begin the process of compiling and harmonising the names of party agents who will represent the NDC during the 2027 elections.
The directive, according to the party, covers candidates contesting elections at various levels.
State and LGA chairmen have been instructed to meet with candidates and other stakeholders to prepare two categories of agents: those for National Assembly elections and those for governorship and State Assembly elections.
The party said the proposed agents would undergo scrutiny and ratification by its leadership, including the presidential and vice-presidential candidates, before training begins.
It directed that the exercise be completed and the final lists submitted within two weeks of the directive.
The committee responsible for coordinating the appointment of party agents is chaired by the NDC Deputy National Chairman (South), Babatunde Alli. Other members include Vin Martin Ilo as Secretary, Yunusa Tanko, Nafiu Dankura and the National Vice Chairmen representing the six geopolitical zones.
The party also urged its candidates and supporters to avoid internal disagreements and concentrate on their respective electoral campaigns.
“There are no battles to fight within the NDC. The common opponent to defeat is the ruling APC,” the statement said.
The NDC said it remained committed to supporting its candidates at all levels and urged them and their supporters to focus on their campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party further encouraged its candidates to work towards securing victories in their respective constituencies, stressing that they were contesting under the platform of the NDC rather than as independent candidates.
