Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that access to reliable electricity remains central to driving industrial growth, attracting investment, and improving livelihoods in the state.
The Governor made this known at the 14th State-by-State Strategic Energy Sector Roundtable Engagement with Delta State, held in Abuja, with the theme: “Unlocking Distributed Energy Investment for Industrial Growth and Inclusive Access in Delta State”. The event was organised in collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
Governor Oborevwori noted that his administration views the initiative not just as an energy access programme but also as a transformative tool for inclusive economic growth, enterprise development, and rural transformation.
“To key into the Federal Government’s decentralised energy plan—one that ensures access to electricity, promotes a renewable energy mix, and encourages private sector collaboration—Delta State has enacted the Delta State Electricity Power Sector Law (2024),” he said.
The Governor assured investors and stakeholders that Delta presents “technically sound, revenue-generating, and impact-driven opportunities,” and reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to provide an enabling environment for private sector participation in the energy sector.
He further commended the World Bank, the Rural Electrification Agency, RESCOs, and other critical stakeholders for their collaborative partnership, assuring them that Delta will continue to work closely with development partners to unlock new energy investments across the state.
