The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, has praised Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State for increasing corps members’ monthly allowances to a minimum of N20,000.

Under the new structure, medical doctors now earn N80,000, pharmacists N50,000, other health professionals N40,000, while all other corps members receive at least N20,000 in addition to the Federal Government’s stipend. Previously, corps members in the state earned as little as N1,000.

General Nafiu, who visited Enugu as part of his nationwide camp tour, commended the governor for prioritising welfare and security, assuring parents that corps members are only deployed to safe areas.

Governor Mbah, in response, pledged more support for the NYSC, recalling Enugu’s historic place as host of the first orientation camp in 1973. He described corps members as vital contributors to education, healthcare, and community development across the state.
