The Delta State Government has taken a significant step toward affordable and sustainable transportation with the establishment of new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) stations in Asaba and Warri, capable of serving up to 2,000 vehicles daily.

The facilities, strategically located in the state’s major urban centres, are designed not only to dispense CNG but also to function as conversion hubs where motorists can switch their vehicles from petrol-powered systems to gas-powered alternatives.

This development is expected to provide relief to residents grappling with the high cost of petrol, offering a cheaper and cleaner energy option for transportation. Industry experts note that CNG-powered vehicles are not only more economical but also environmentally friendly, producing fewer emissions compared to conventional fuels.

Speaking on the initiative, government officials emphasized that the project aligns with broader efforts to improve mobility, reduce transportation costs, and promote environmental sustainability across the state.
The introduction of the CNG stations is part of the state’s ongoing commitment under the MORE Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

Residents and transport operators in Asaba and Warri have welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the initiative will ease the burden of rising fuel costs and improve daily commuting.

With the dual functionality of fueling and conversion services, the new CNG hubs are expected to accelerate the adoption of alternative energy in Delta State, setting a precedent for other states in Nigeria to follow.

As implementation progresses, stakeholders anticipate that the initiative will play a key role in transforming the state’s transport sector while contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
