Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has flagged off the construction of 55 new Primary Health Centres across the state in a renewed effort to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand access to rural communities.
The project, which cuts across all local government areas, is part of the administration’s plan to revamp the health sector and ensure affordable, quality healthcare for every resident of Imo.
Speaking at the launch, Governor Uzodimma reaffirmed his commitment to bringing medical services closer to the grassroots.
“We have continued to ensure access to healthcare facilities by Imolites as we embark on another round of health centre construction across the state. This move aligns with our resolve to ensure our people enjoy the good health they truly deserve,” he said.
The governor recalled that his administration had earlier renovated over 305 Primary Health Centres across the state’s 305 political wards, with additional interventions carried out through the Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ISOPADEC) to extend coverage to more communities.
With the fresh construction of 55 new facilities, Uzodimma noted that the government aims to consolidate earlier efforts and further ease the burden of healthcare access, particularly for rural dwellers.
Observers say the initiative could significantly improve the state’s primary healthcare system, reduce pressure on secondary hospitals, and enhance preventive health services at the community level.
