Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign will be driven by tangible achievements and completed projects rather than political promises.
Wike made the statement while speaking with journalists after inspecting major road projects in the FCT, including the long-delayed Apo-Karshi Road and the 14-kilometre Bwari-Kubwa Road.
The Minister said the Tinubu administration had made significant progress in addressing longstanding infrastructure challenges in the nation’s capital.
According to Wike, the administration’s performance would provide the basis for its campaign ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
“Campaign is not about promises; it is about what you put into action that impacts the lives of the people,” he said.
Wike noted that the Apo-Karshi Road project, which spans 13.5 kilometres, was initially awarded in 2011 but remained uncompleted for years before being inherited by the current administration.
He explained that the original contract was terminated and subsequently re-awarded to SCC, a contractor he said had the capacity to complete the project.
The Minister commended the company for sustaining work on the road despite delays in payment, describing its commitment as an indication of confidence in the administration.
He said the contractor had projected November for the completion of the Apo-Karshi Road project.
Wike also expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Bwari-Kubwa Road, saying residents had previously doubted that the project would become a reality.
According to him, the 14-kilometre road is expected to be handed over to the FCT Administration by December.
“I have said by December this project will be handed over to us. Now it's for the people here to also do their own part by appreciating Mr. President for not just making promises but making promises and fulfilling those promises,” Wike said.
Reflecting on his three years in office as FCT Minister, Wike thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, acknowledging the challenges encountered during the period.
He, however, said his team had remained focused on addressing the challenges and delivering projects across the capital territory.
Wike also disclosed plans to publish a comprehensive record of infrastructure projects inherited from previous administrations, including those of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
He said the document would also detail projects awarded and completed under the Tinubu administration, allowing Nigerians to independently assess the government’s performance.
