Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has arrived at the Chinua Achebe International Airport, Umueri, Anambra State, for an official visit to the state.
Senator Tinubu, who arrived on Thursday alongside members of her delegation, was received at the airport by Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, his wife, Dr Nonye Soludo, and other senior government officials.
The governor and his wife formally welcomed the First Lady at the airport tarmac before exchanging pleasantries and proceeding with the scheduled protocol for her visit.
Other top government dignitaries were also at the airport to receive Senator Tinubu, who is expected to perform several official functions during her visit to the state.
A major highlight of the visit is the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme for the South-East Zone, an initiative of the First Lady aimed at addressing malnutrition among vulnerable women and children.
She is also expected to commission an Information and Communication Technology Centre at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko.
The Director, South-East Zone, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Samuel Obasi, said the National Community Food Bank Programme was initiated by Senator Tinubu to tackle the growing problem of malnutrition affecting children and women across the country.
According to Obasi, the programme is being implemented by the First Lady in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and partners across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
He explained that the Anambra facility, to be established at the Amawbia Primary Health Centre, would serve residents across Anambra Central Senatorial District while supporting other designated centres in the Anambra North and South Senatorial Districts.
Obasi said the food bank was specifically designed to support children and women identified as suffering from moderate or severe acute malnutrition.
He added that the initiative would provide nutritional support to vulnerable groups while complementing ongoing efforts by health authorities to combat malnutrition and improve maternal and child health outcomes.
The First Lady’s visit is expected to further strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and the Anambra State Government in the areas of healthcare, nutrition, digital development and community support.
