Oyinlola Denies Adeleke’s Claim, Says Osun Government Gave Him Official Vehicle

Former Osun State Governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has dismissed claims that incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke personally bought or gave him a vehicle.

Oyinlola made the clarification on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, explaining that the vehicle was provided to him as part of benefits guaranteed to former governors under a law enacted by the Osun State House of Assembly.

According to the former governor, the vehicle was not a personal gift from Adeleke but an obligation of the Osun State Government in line with existing legislation.

Oyinlola said the law stipulates that former governors are entitled to have their official vehicles replaced every four years. He noted that he had been out of office for 16 years, meaning the vehicle allocated to him should have been replaced several times under the provision.

“That is far from the truth, and it is a sad development that a governor will continue to tell lies,” Oyinlola said.
The former governor stressed that the benefit applies to all eligible former governors and is not dependent on who occupies the governor’s office at any particular time.

“One of the things that is accrued to a former governor is that for every four years, his vehicle should be changed. It wasn’t Adeleke that gave me a car but Osun State government. It is a law,” he stated.

Oyinlola’s comments come amid heightened political activity in Osun State ahead of the August 15 governorship election, with political actors trading allegations and counter-allegations over governance and political leadership in the state.

The former governor’s position seeks to clarify that the vehicle he received was a statutory benefit provided by the state government, rather than a personal gesture by Governor Adeleke.
