The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has rejected the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election, saying it is reviewing the results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before deciding whether to challenge the result in court.
The party said it was consulting its legal team over alleged irregularities in the electoral process and would explore all constitutional and legal options available to it.
The APC disclosed this in a statement issued in Osogbo on Sunday by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi.
Olabisi argued that the conclusion of voting and declaration of results did not mark the end of the electoral process, noting that parties dissatisfied with an election have the right to seek judicial redress.
He said the APC was carefully examining the results and other aspects of the election before taking a final decision on litigation.
According to him, the electoral process extends beyond the conduct of voting to the various stages of legal adjudication, including the election tribunal, Court of Appeal and, where applicable, the Supreme Court.
The party maintained that alleged anomalies could still be challenged under the Electoral Act 2026, as amended.
While rejecting suggestions that the election was permanently settled by INEC's declaration, the APC commended its members and supporters for their commitment throughout the electoral process.
The party also urged its supporters to remain calm and avoid confrontations with members of the ruling party, particularly in response to alleged provocations.
It called on the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the protection of APC members and supporters, alleging that some of its supporters had been subjected to harassment by members of the ruling party.
The APC said its next course of action would be determined after its legal advisers complete their assessment of the election and the available evidence.
The party expressed confidence in the judicial process, insisting that the present political situation in Osun was temporary and that justice would ultimately prevail.
