Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has approved an automatic scholarship scheme for best graduating students in the four state-owned universities — a landmark decision targeted at strengthening academic excellence and boosting youth development across the state.

The announcement was confirmed by the Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, who described the initiative as a demonstration of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to empowering young minds under the M.O.R.E. Agenda, particularly in human capital development.

Under the new policy, the Best Graduating Student from each academic session in the following institutions will receive the scholarship award:
  • Delta State University, Abraka (DELSU)
  • Southern Delta University, Ozoro (SDU)
  • University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL)
  • Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba (DOU)
Dr. Enita stated that the awardees will be fully funded to pursue both Master’s and Ph.D. degrees in recognized Nigerian universities. However, beneficiaries will still be required to undergo standard scholarship processing and documentation before accessing the funds.

He emphasized that the gesture reflects the state government’s long-term vision of raising a highly skilled and globally competitive population of young professionals capable of driving Delta State’s growth in years to come.
“The Board remains committed to creating opportunities that uplift our students and encourage academic distinction,” Enita assured.

Education stakeholders have commended the initiative, noting that it will further inspire students across Delta’s higher institutions to work harder, while positioning the state as a progressive hub for learning and academic innovation.

The new scholarship policy is expected to boost morale among undergraduates and reinforce the value of excellence in the state’s tertiary education system.
