Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke on his electoral victory and urged him to remain focused on good governance and the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
Obasanjo made the call during a surprise congratulatory visit to Adeleke at his residence in Ede on Sunday, according to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, in Osogbo on Monday.
The former president was accompanied by Mr Oyewole Fasawe during the visit and was received by Adeleke and his team.
Rasheed said Adeleke expressed gratitude to God for the outcome of the election, while Obasanjo prayed for continued success in the governor’s administration.
The former president urged Adeleke to maintain his commitment to the welfare of Osun residents and continue providing effective governance.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo told the governor.
Adeleke, who expressed surprise at the visit, thanked Obasanjo for the gesture and attributed his victory to God and the people of Osun State.
The governor also pledged to remain committed to serving the people and upholding democratic values.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,” Adeleke said.
The statement added that the state’s Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi, accompanied Adeleke during the reception of the former president.
Adeleke was declared winner of the Osun governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s State Returning Officer on Sunday.
The governor polled 511,067 votes to defeat the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes in the Saturday election.
