Washington D.C. — In remarks that have sent shockwaves through America’s political and legal circles, U.S. President Donald Trump has proposed deploying active-duty troops to U.S. cities he branded as “dangerous,” not only to fight crime but also to use them as training zones.
Addressing senior military leaders, Trump declared:
“San Francisco and Chicago, New York, Los Angeles — very unsafe places. We’ll straighten them out one by one. This is a war from within. I told Pete (Secretary of War), we should use some of these dangerous U.S. cities as training grounds for our military. Not the National Guard, but our military. Because we’re going into Chicago very soon.”
The former president lashed out at Chicago’s leadership, calling the governor “incompetent” and “very stupid,” while citing recent gun violence statistics as evidence of failed governance. According to Trump, “If they lose five people in a week, they consider it a great week. They shouldn’t be losing any.”

The idea of turning American cities into live training grounds for soldiers is unprecedented and deeply controversial. U.S. law — particularly the Posse Comitatus Act — bars active-duty troops from performing law enforcement duties on domestic soil.
