Manchester United have completed the signing of highly rated 16-year-old midfielder David Eze from local rivals Manchester City.
The England youth international has agreed to continue his development at Old Trafford after attracting interest from several clubs across Europe during the summer.
Eze, who plays primarily as a central midfielder, has signed a pre-professional agreement with United and will be eligible to sign professional terms when he turns 17.
The teenager was formally welcomed by Manchester United shortly after the club completed the signing of another young player, Karrim Cassim, from Manchester City's academy setup.
Following the completion of his move, Eze visited Old Trafford and was given a tour of the stadium as part of his official welcome to the club.
In a statement, Manchester United confirmed the arrival of the youngster.
“Talented youngster David Eze has joined Manchester United,” the club said.
“The central midfielder has joined the club after leaving Manchester City.
“The 16-year-old, who progressed through the academy system at City, has also been capped by England at youth level.”
Eze developed through Manchester City's academy before making an impression at international youth level. He has represented England at both Under-16 and Under-17 levels.
The midfielder reportedly attracted interest from a number of European clubs during the summer, but ultimately opted to remain in England and continue his development with United.
Born in Dublin, Eze holds a European passport, giving him additional options regarding a potential move abroad. However, the teenager chose Old Trafford as the next stage of his development.
His arrival is also in line with Manchester United's continued focus on recruiting promising young players from clubs within the United Kingdom.
Brexit regulations have placed restrictions on the recruitment of young overseas players by English clubs, increasing the importance of identifying talented prospects within the domestic system.
Eze is expected to continue his development at United's Carrington training complex before becoming eligible to sign a professional contract after turning 17.
