HURPA Urges CP Aina Adesola to Prioritize Human Rights, Police Welfare in Delta State
The Human Rights Pathfinders Association (HURPA) has urged the newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Aina Adesola, to place the protection of human rights and the welfare of police officers at the forefront of his administration.

HURPA made the call in a publication titled “Human Rights and Policing,” shortly after CP Adesola assumed duty as the 23rd Commissioner of Police in the state.

In the publication, the association emphasized that respect for human rights remains fundamental to effective policing, public trust, and sustainable security. HURPA noted that upholding the rights of citizens during policing operations would strengthen cooperation between the police and communities across Delta State.

The group also appealed to the new police boss to prioritize the welfare of officers, both junior and senior ranks, stressing that well-motivated personnel are crucial to professional and ethical policing.

According to HURPA, key welfare areas that require urgent attention include decent housing, improved working conditions, and deliberate morale-boosting initiatives for officers who often operate under challenging circumstances.

“Housing and morale of police officers directly affect their performance, discipline, and relationship with the public. A police force that is well cared for will naturally deliver better service to the people,” the publication stated.

HURPA expressed confidence that CP Adesola’s wealth of experience in operational and administrative policing would translate into reforms that balance firm law enforcement with respect for human dignity and officers’ welfare.

The association further pledged its readiness to collaborate with the Delta State Police Command on human rights education, advocacy, and community engagement initiatives aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence and the rule of law in the state.
