Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has signed the ₦1.84 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, describing the development as “a breath of fresh air” and a reflection of improved relations among key stakeholders in the state.
The budget was signed at a brief ceremony held at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
Fubara commended the Rivers State House of Assembly for its diligence in scrutinising and passing the appropriation bill, while expressing optimism that the new budget would drive development and improve the welfare of residents.
The governor also acknowledged the role played by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in facilitating the meeting and discussions that eventually led to the passage and signing of the budget.
According to Fubara, the focus of the appropriation is not merely on its financial size but on delivering tangible development and improving the lives of the people of Rivers State.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the “Rivers First” agenda, stressing the need for sustained progress and development across the state.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, said the provisions of the budget reflected the governor’s determination to move the state forward and deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
With the 2026 Appropriation Bill now signed into law, Rivers State is expected to enter a new phase focused on cooperation and stability, with Governor Fubara calling for cordial relations and a shared commitment to the state’s development.
