Port Harcourt — Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, following the end of the six-month emergency rule imposed on the state in March 2025.
In a statewide broadcast on Friday, Governor Fubara acknowledged the challenges endured during the period of suspended democratic institutions but emphasized that peace and stability had now been restored to the state.
“Peace and reconciliation have returned to Rivers State, though not without hard lessons learnt from the emergency rule,” Fubara declared, urging political leaders, lawmakers, and stakeholders to prioritize the collective interests of the people above personal differences.
The governor praised President Tinubu for his “fatherly disposition and decisive intervention” in brokering reconciliation among stakeholders, including himself, former Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Quoting an old saying, he reminded Rivers people that “the costliest peace is cheaper than the cheapest war,” stressing that the peace process offered a fresh beginning for unity and progress.
Governor Fubara reaffirmed his loyalty to the President and pledged to work harmoniously with the Rivers State House of Assembly to “recover lost grounds and accelerate social and economic advancement.” He listed infrastructure, education, healthcare, and ongoing development projects as immediate priorities of his administration.
The governor also extended appreciation to the National Assembly leadership — Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Dr. Abbas Tajudeen, and other lawmakers — for their roles in resolving the political crisis.
He further thanked religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society groups, youths, women, and Rivers people at home and abroad for their resilience and peaceful conduct during the emergency rule.
“Above all, let us draw strength from our shared identity as Rivers people. Our diversity is our greatest asset, and our unity the strongest guarantee of our future,” the governor stated.
The broadcast ended with a call on all citizens of Rivers State, regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences, to join hands in rebuilding the state for peace, dignity, and prosperity.
