Suspected bandits have abducted a pregnant woman and two other residents after reportedly stealing about ₦4 million during a late-night attack on Abudu Community in Apado Ward, Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.
The attack occurred on Tuesday night when heavily armed assailants stormed the community, causing panic among residents as they carried out the operation.
According to sources, the gunmen initially invaded the community to rob residents. During the raid, they allegedly made away with approximately ₦4 million before abducting three people, including a pregnant woman, and taking them to an undisclosed location.
The Executive Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government Area, Hon. Lukman Olayinka, confirmed the incident in a video, assuring residents that security agencies had intensified efforts to rescue the victims safely.
Speaking in Yoruba, Olayinka expressed confidence that the abductees would regain their freedom soon, noting that available intelligence indicated the attackers were primarily motivated by robbery.
"The information available to us suggests that those who were kidnapped will not be held for long," he said. "The attackers came with the intention of stealing money. After seeing the amount of cash in the community, they believed there was more to be taken. By God's grace, they will be arrested."
As of the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of the three abducted victims remain unknown, while security operatives continue efforts to secure their release and track down the perpetrators.
