Amai and Ezhionum Left in Darkness — Where is the Government?
For close to two years now, the people of Amai and Ezhionum kingdoms in Ukwuani Local Government Area have been condemned to perpetual darkness. Since 2023, when hoodlums vandalized the community transformer, power supply has remained a dream rather than a reality. What was once an act of sabotage has now become a lingering wound, exposing citizens to hardship and insecurity.

The absence of electricity is not merely an inconvenience; it is a direct assault on the socio-economic survival of the people. Small businesses that depend on power have folded up, students are forced to study under lanterns and candles, and households struggle to adapt to a life of forced blackout in a 21st-century Nigeria.

But the bigger question remains: Where is the Government?

It is the constitutional duty of government, both at the state and local levels, to safeguard infrastructure, respond swiftly to community needs, and ensure that essential services are restored when disrupted. Leaving two ancient kingdoms in darkness for years smacks of neglect and insensitivity.

The people of Amai and Ezhionum are not asking for luxury. They are demanding a basic right: access to electricity. A government that prides itself on development cannot continue to ignore the plight of thousands of its citizens living without light, while millions are budgeted yearly for rural electrification projects.

Kwale Post calls on the Delta State Government, the Ministry of Power, and the management of BEDC to act without delay. The vandalized transformer must be replaced, culprits brought to justice, and a permanent security framework put in place to protect public infrastructure from further sabotage.

Darkness breeds frustration, insecurity, and underdevelopment. Amai and Ezhionum deserve better. The time to act is now.
